Whitesand First Nation - Attention Thunder Bay Members! ...
Read moreWhitesand First Nation is a road accessible Ojibway community with a land base of 615 acres. The nearest urban center is Thunder Bay located approximately 260km from Whitesand First Nation.
In May 2025, the total registered population was 1300. Originally located along the northwest shores of Lake Nipigon near Mount St. John, and near the Whitesand River, Whitesand First Nation was without a home from 1942 when high water levels began to erode the shoreline and flooding out their buildings and burial grounds. Due to the economic influence of the Canadian National Railroad (CNR), many Whitesand First Nation members settled along the CNR rail line including areas of Collins, Mud River and Ferland. The largest of these settlements took place in Armstrong. Consequently, when a new Reserve was negotiated, it was nearly adjacent and north of Armstrong.
