Introduction & Purpose

This research study is being conducted by the Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation, in partnership with Whitesand First Nation. This study is funded by the Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation through the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. We would like to invite you to take part in an on-line survey to assess workforce development needs for Whitesand’s BioEnergy Project.

What You Are Being Asked To Do

You are being asked to voluntarily complete this on-line survey. It involves questions about your educational background and interest in workforce opportunities at Whitesand’s BioEnergy Project. This on-line survey should take about 3-5 minutes to complete. In order for all of your answers to be collected you must go to the end of the survey and click ‘submit survey’. This will demonstrate your full consent to participation.

Potential Benefits

There is no direct benefit to you for taking part in this study. It is hoped that the research will inform workforce development for Whitesand’s BioEnergy Project.

Potential Risks

Some of the survey questions may make you uncomfortable or upset or you may simply wish not to answer some questions. You are free to decline to answer any questions you do not wish to answer, or stop participating at any time by closing your browser. If you close your browser before getting to the end of the survey and do not confirm your consent to participate at the end of the survey by clicking the ‘submit’ button your information collected up to that point will not be used.

Your Identity Will Be Confidential

The information we learn during this on-line survey will be kept in strict confidence.

How The Information Will Be Protected & Stored

This survey is administered on the Whitesand First Nation website. Whitesand First Nation will store the survey on a password protected server. Three years after this study is complete, the survey data will be deleted. Your participation in this program will not impact your relationship with Whitesand First Nation. When the final report is written, anything you say will be combined with other survey data so your words will not be connected to you.

To further protect your information, data stored by the researcher will be password protected and/or encrypted. Ryerson’s Google Drive will be used to share data between Whitesand First Nation and Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation. Only the researcher/s named in this study will have access to the data as collected. Any future publications will include collective information (i.e., aggregate data). Your individual responses (i.e. raw data) will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team.

Once the evaluation wraps up in November 30, 2018, all hard copy files may be moved to a secure storage room at the Whitesand Education Office. These records will be kept for a period of seven (7) years as required by the funder (Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development). During the project and seven years after the project finishes, you may request to access your file by contacting the Whitesand Band Office at 807-583-2177.

Incentive For Participation

You will not be paid for taking part in this study.

Your Rights As A Research Participant

Participation in research is completely voluntary and you can withdraw your consent at any point up to clicking the submit button at the end of the survey.

Please note, that by clicking submit at the end of the study you are providing your consent for participation. By consenting to participate you are not waiving any of your legal rights as a research participant.
