Whitesand First Nation

Family Services

The Family Services Program is designed by the Chief and Council of Whitesand First Nation (WFN) to protect and ensure the safety and well being of our children, youth and families regardless of where the reside. Whitesand First Nation and the Family Services Program provide support and advocacy for all Band Members involved or at imminent risk of becoming involved in the child welfare system

The Family Services Program delivers a rage of culturally responsive services that proactively support keeping children and youth unified with their families, community and cultural identity. Both federal and provincial legislation in the area of child and family services (child welfare) recognize important indigenous cultural considerations  when considering the best interest of indigenous children and youth, including the child or youth's cultural, linguistic, religious and connections to their language and community. These considerations are extended to any plans for the child or youth's care, including care in accordance with the customs and traditions of the community.
