Housing
There is approximately 107 houses on Whitesand First Nation Reserve. All houses are serviced with water and septic systems. There is an Elder's Complex which houses 6 apartments with common area. These are rental units. The housing department is primarily responsible for housing administration, which includes budget and financing. The department ensures proper housing standards are enforced and inspections are completed. Whitesand First Nation considers appropriate housing members a priority in order to facilitate a safe and healthy community. To ensure residential infrastructure sustainability for housing services in the long term.
Activities:
- Ensures that housing issues are effectively managed.
- Provides recommendations and changes to the housing policy.
- Receives and reviews applications for renovations , new housing units, housing loans and housing renovations loans.
- Reviews rents to ensure payments are made.
- Arranges inspections of rental units and community houses for maintenance , repairs and renovations.
- Carries out annual maintenance and repairs on behalf of tenants and ensures work is completed.
- Provides assistance with applications to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) for funding programs such as Ontario.
- Renovates (formerly RRAP and HASI).
- Provides assistance in securing funding for rent-to-own housing through CHMC.
The Housing Manager is responsible for the administration, management and delivery of all Band owned housings programs, services and properties within the community of Whitesand First Nation Band. The Housing Manager is understanding of, and sensitive to, the needs and circumstances of tenants while at the same time ensuring that policies, procedures and standards are maintained. The Housing Manager ensures that tenants comply with the terms and conditions of their lease. Failure to successfully complete these tasks could result in delays in occupancy for those in need of community housing, undue damage to housing units and financial and/or program mismanagement for community housing.
