Whitesand First Nation - Notice of Election

Notice is hereby given to the electors of Whitesand First Nation that a poll will be held to elect a Chief and six (6) Councillors as per the custom election of the First Nation on Saturday November 15, 2025 at the Multi-Plex Community Centre in Whitesand First Nation from 9:00am to 8:00pm.

An Advance Poll will be held on Friday November 14, 2025 in Thunder Bay at the Landmark Inn located at 1010 Dawson Road from 9:00am to 8:00pm.

All ballots cast at this election will be counted at the Whitesand First Nation Multi-Plex immediately following the close of the poll on Saturday November 15, 2025.

 

Community Meeting

Community Meeting is scheduled for Saturday October 11, 2025 at 11:00am at the Whitesand First Nation Multi-Plex for the purpose of reaffirming the rules of the Election of Chief and Councillors.

 

Nomination Meeting

Nomination Meeting is scheduled for Saturday October 11, 2025 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for the positions of Chief and six (6) Councillors. The meeting will be opened and closed by motion from the members present. No further nominations will be accepted once the meeting has been adjourned.

A proxy letter indicating acceptance, if not nominated and not present, can be forwarded to Audrey Gilbeau, Electoral Officer at agilbeau@gmail.com prior to the close of the Nomination Meeting.

 

Reaffirmed General Election Rules

(Saturday October 11, 2025 at 11:00am)

  1. Must be Whitesand First Nation Member (Confirmed by Indian Registration Administrator).
  2. Must be 18 years of age.
  3. Advanced Poll – Friday November 14, 2025 – Landmark Inn, Thunder Bay, ON located at 1010 Dawson Road from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  4. Election Day – Saturday November 15, 2025 – Multi-plex, Whitesand First Nation, ON from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  5. All candidates are eligible to appoint a scrutineer.
  6. Indian Registration Administrator can add a member's name to Voters List at Advanced Poll and Election Day.
  7. No campaigning on the Day of voting (Advanced and Election Day).
  8. No loitering permitted in vicinity of polling station(s) – including Landmark Inn in Thunder Bay and Whitesand First Nation Multi-plex.
  9. Candidates can run for the position of Chief or Councillor, but not both.
  10. Translator will be present at advanced poll and election day polling stations.
  11. No double-sided ballots.
  12. Candidates must be present or provide proxy letter to confirm or decline nominations by the end/close of Nomination meeting on Saturday October 11, 2025 by 4:00 p.m.
  13. Candidates will have seven (7) days following the nomination meeting (Saturday October 18, 2025) to withdraw their name as a candidate prior to the printing of the ballot for Chief or ballot for Councillor.
  14. Ballots for Chief Candidates and Ballots for Councillor candidates will be printed in accordance with these rules.
